European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and Base4NFDI

Our goal

Base4NFDI contributes to the evolution and innovation of the German RDM service landscape and is committed to ensuring interoperability across existing infrastructures beyond Germany to underpin the transition to open science. Thus, interoperability with EOSC is at the heart of Base4NFDI.

Here, we want to highlight activities that are steering in the direction to better identifying how to establish links to EOSC EU Node activities and how to engage the Base4NFDI service teams with interoperability discussions in the months and years ahead.

In July 2025, Base4NFDI has published a news item about:

"Base4NFDI requirements for EOSC"

Abstract:
International interoperability and engagement with EOSC is one of the key objectives of Base4NFDI. Base4NFDI services are encouraged to take a broadapproach and align with international and EOSC activities. Therefore the Basic Services are exspected to have a basic awareness of EOSC activities during their evelopment.

In January 2025, Base4NFDI has published its first white paper on:

"Advancing Essential Services to Complement EOSC"

Abstract:
This short paper is aimed at policymakers for the NFDI (German National Research Data Infrastructure) and EOSC (European Open Science Cloud) and examines the Base4NFDI services in the context of the EOSC EU Node services. It is intended as the start of a dialogue on the Base4NFDI contribution to the federation.
