Evaluation of Base4NFDI
In view of the complexity, but also the novelty of the processes for basic service development, Base4NFDI has committed itself in its project proposal to an evaluation of the decision-making processes and framework after two years:
"Given the novelty of its approach and to foster continuous adaptation and optimization of its structures, the young age and thus developing nature of the NFDI and its processes Base4NFDI, commits to an external evaluation of its governance and all decision-making processes after two years. The purpose of the evaluation is to objectively assess possible deficiencies particularly with respect to substantive and financial decisions. It will be handled by an external (likely commercial) provider with the appropriate experience in “programme evaluations” and no ties to any partners within Base4NFDI." (p. 102)
Based on the proposal text and the experience gained during the project so far, the following points are of particular interest:
These objectives are intended to ensure a comprehensive and targeted evaluation of the services and processes of Base4NFDI. The results of the evaluation will be used to propose improvements to the processes in the second half of the project to increase the efficiency and success. For this reason, all teams and stakeholders involved (Base4NFDI Team Members, TEC, NFDI Sections, Basic Services Development Teams and Consortia Members) are both data providers and target group of the evaluation.
In the following section, we would like to inform you about the progress and current status of the evaluation.
We are pleased to announce that Technopolis will evaluate the structure and mechanisms of Base4NFDI. In close collaboration with the Base4NFDI team, especially the Base4NFDI Office, Technopolis will assess the social and technical governance of Base4NFDI in terms of relevance, effectiveness, efficiency and coherence.
