We are delighted to welcome you to our first Base4NFDI newsletter! Every two months we will share the latest updates about upcoming Base-relevant events and presentations, insights into the basic service development, and notify you about interesting resources to keep you informed and inspired.

Events and presentations

  • Online Workshop: Research data infrastructure - Analysis and Insights from the Questionnaire results, July 3, 2024, 11 p.m., registration
    In this talk, DZHW will present first results of a survey on Research Data Infrastructures among researchers in German higher education and research institutions. The survey was conducted in May 2024 and addressed all academic groups. The trend survey is part of the project „Systematic assessment of impact of Base4NFDI“.

Brief updates from the basic services

  • IAM4NFDI
    • For an insight into the service, watch the NFDITalk: IAM4NFDI - Providing federated Identity and Access Management for the NFDI from May 6, 2024 on YouTube (Link). 
    • IAM4NFDI presented the benefits of a Community AAI solution for individual NFDI consortia in an online workshop on June 4, 2024. The presentations explained the architecture, the offered CAAI solutions to consortia that have not opted for one, yet, governance models, and the developing interoperability between existing software solutions such as the Life-Science-AAI and the NFDI-AAI. The presentations can be found here.
    • The call for the second IAM incubator cycle ended on June 30th. Interested consortia and working groups in the NFDI were able to submit small projects, for which the IAM4NFDI Service Team offers intensive consulting for customized AAI solution development.

  • TS4NFDI
    • For more information about this service, watch the NFDITalk: Terminology Services for NFDI (TS4NFDI) from January 22, 2024 on YouTube (Link). 
    • Terminology Service Suite is now published and ready to use: https://ts4nfdi.github.io/terminology-service-suite/comp/latest 
    • The TS4NFDI Service Team conducted an extensive survey together with the Base4NFDI Service Stewards in May and June 2024 to identify use cases and requirements from the consortia. The survey was aimed in particular at managers, developers and users from the terminology environment throughout the NFDI and reached over 70 participants from all NFDI consortia. The data is currently being evaluated and its outcome will be used to improve the user experience of the TS Suite.

  • PID4NFDI
    • Would you like to know more about this service? Watch the NFDITalk: PID4NFDI – Example Use Cases and Services for NFDI from Feb 19, 2024 on YouTube (Link). 
    • In April and May 2024, the PID4NFDI Service Team conducted a survey with the help of their Base4NFDI Service Stewards, to assess the status of PIDs and their substantial requirements within the consortia. It targeted providers and managers of research data infrastructures, received 47 responses and reached almost all consortia. At the moment, the team is analysing the data for qualitative and quantitative evaluation. The outcome will be used to further shape the vision and offerings of the PID4NFDI service. Next up, expert interviews with chosen use cases will be conducted.
    • The service team is currently preparing the Integration Phase proposal for the Aug 1 deadline and will present updates during the Common Infrastructures section meeting on July 3. Register here to be part of the section or contact section speaker directly to be included.

  • KGI4NFDI
    • The Initialisation Phase started on June 1st, 2024.
    • Base4NFDI conducted a successful online kick-off workshop on June 26 to delve into processes and future work together.

  • DMP4NFDI
    • The Initialisation Phase started on June 1st, 2024.
    • Base4NFDI conducted a successful online kick-off workshop with DMP4NFDI on June 21 to delve into processes and future work together.

  • Jupyter4NFDI
    • The Initialisation Phase started on June 1st, 2024. 
    • Jupyter4NFDI has met up at an internal kick-off meeting to discuss the future work plan and consolidate the service team. The virtual kick-off meeting with Base4NFDI followed soon after.
