What is the Basic Service under development about?

Persistent identifiers (PIDs) are central to FAIR research data management. However, different disciplines and different resources result in diverse requirements and the different NFDI consortia have different levels of maturity in PID implementation. PID4NFDI will design a work programme to build an NFDI foundation service on established PID infrastructures.

Goals of the Initialisation phase

Within the initialisation phase it is planned to lay the foundation for further phases through use cases analysis, requirement engineering and concept development. PID4NFDI will follow a clear path of promoting the uptake by PID infrastructures and service providers and will only develop and operate NFDI-specific services if necessary. The goal is to roll-out a portfolio of services that covers the various use cases and requirements of the NFDI consortia.

Upcoming Events

The PID4NFDI team invites to participate in a collaborative initiative focused on the integration of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) within DMPs and providing PID-related support. We have establishing a dedicated focus group on this topic to collectively address important focus areas, including but not limited to: metadata quality and completeness; PID registration and integration into existing platforms; lifecycle integration challenges associated with PIDs; evaluation of existing and development of new training resources and best practice documentation; policy alignment, including meeting funder requirements.

We invite everyone interested from NFDI to participate in and contribute to the focus group, especially if they regularly work with DMPs and their integration in technical systems and infrastructure and/or issues of metadata in DMPs. Different backgrounds, perspectives and levels of expertise will be crucial and are very much welcome.

The initial meeting of the focus group will be held on April 1, 2025, 1:00 to 2:30 pm.
In the meeting, PID4NFDI will introduce their two-year plan in the Base4NFDI integration phase, and together they will define collaborative tasks and establish a clear action plan.
